The information above shows the latest geomagnetic activity information for
seven predominantly high-latitude auroral magnetic observatories. Data from
these stations are used to derive most of the propagation predictions in the
table below.
Each K-index value shown above is a one-hour K-index value. That is,
each value describes the level of geomagnetic activity that was observed
during the indicated UTC hour. These figures are updated every hour that new
data becomes available, although our system checks for new data once every 30
minutes. These K-indices are useful for describing the current state of the
auroral oval, and hence can be used with fair reliability to determine
whether specific high-latitude radio signal paths might be affected adversely
by auroral activity.
