Why is there so many planes in the sky
Submitted by:
Remi Boucher at Sun Oct 10 01:49:01 2004 UTC
Apparently, all these planes were coming from Europe and were passing over
Sherbrooke to avoid the jet-stream. Many people in town noticed this unusual
aerial traffic over our heads. I took this picture in Infra-Red (IR) with my
digital camera and a special filter to block the visible light and collect
only the IR light (invisible for the human eye). IR light gives a better
contrast between clouds and blue sky. I counted 25 contrails in this
picture.

First shot in a line of many nice ones taken early on, about 9:15 pm and
lasted decently until the light of the moon and the aurora dimming sent me
home around 10:45 or so. 20mm, Iso 200, about 20-25 sec.

Aurora, Orion and the Three Sisters
Submitted by:
JOHNRFLINN@aol.com at Sun Apr 3 00:34:01 2005 UTC
The geomagnetic storm of Nov 7-8, 2004 created
spectacular auroral displays over the Oregon
Cascades. Wave upon wave of light rippled
overhead. The bright red and yellow front of
light seemed to come to a stop over the Three
Sisters volcanoes as Orion rose in the East.
Nikon FM2 w/ 20mm Nikor at F 3.0 and about
15 seconds using Provia 400F pushed 1.5 stops.

Mixed Blessing
Submitted by:
Wade B Clark Jr at Sat Sep 18 23:30:01 2004 UTC
Red sunrises are such a mixed blessing. They are so moving to the
spirit, yet they bring cloudy and rainy weather to this part of the
county...which is what we've had for the last two weeks. ...no
aurora observing, no astrophotography, and no autumn color hiking...

27 july 2004
Submitted by:
Dominic Cantin at Tue Aug 3 01:42:01 2004 UTC
An amazing show was on the skies on 27 july 2004 ! I saw a lots of steady
corona and many shapes at zenith ! As it's typical to the northern lights ,
there were agitated moments during 30 to 45 minutes and after the calm was
there during 30 to 45 minutes. Toward 7:30 UT, a blue wall of auroras
borealis stood in front of me during 5 minutes ( visualy it was blue but my
pictures show a rainbow of colors ) , I was dazzled by the beauty of the
spectacle ! The dawn appeared just after , then I went to bed with a lots of
magic images in the head :) photo details : 16mm , 20mm or 28mm @ f 2,8 ,

SUN HALO
Submitted by:

This halo was shot during an astronomy camp. In
the evenings...too cloudy to do anything...well
astronomically speaking ! But during the day
around noon, when everybody was eating, I was
fortunate enough to get the only astronomical
phenomenon of the week-end! Enjoy!
