Comet Mcnaught 10th Jan 07 Derbyshire, England.

I got lucky tonight and managed to get a clear slot in the cloud, despite a 60mph wind which made things a bit blury I got one half decent image. Canon 300d 1sec @ iso 400 F4.5

Snow Rain and a Rainbow

Submitted by: Richard M Haw at Sat Nov 24 18:50:01 2007 UTC

A wintery week in the Lake District saw snow showers over about 2500ft and rain at lower levels. Late in the evening sunshine one of these breif showers was illuminated to produce a beautiful rainbow over Lake Bassenthwaite . I love this shot, it has it all, Atmosphere, Rain, Snow and a Rainbow. Taken 20th Nov 07.

My first meteor image.

Submitted by: Richard M Haw at Mon Aug 13 22:23:01 2007 UTC

A beautifully clear sky ensured a good view was had of the Perseid meteor shower. Rates were not as high as predicted, but still a very enjoyable night with lots of bright fireballs and green trails. I also managed to capture my first image of a meteor. Not the greatest meteor pic I have ever seen, but it's all mine.

Happy Easter.

Just going through a few shots and found this one from March 20th.

Just above the entrance to the Mine and Cavern where I work formed these six foot icicles over two very cold days. They later fell - killing a group of 20 tourists from the "global warming is fiction" society !!!!!! --- Just kidding

Cirrus cloud 20th March 07 Derbyshire, England.

A very cold day with a strong northwesterly brought snow showers today and some clear spells along with these beautiful "text book" cirrus clouds, looking like delicate white brushstrokes, glad I had the camera, Lovley!

The new moon and Venus

New moon and Venus 20th March 07 Derbyshire, England.

At last after several attempts over the last few months, due to bad weather, I finally managed to snap a shot of the moon and Venus. Fabulous clear sky tonight and the scene was stunning, well worth the wait. Inset is a pic of the moon taken at the same time but with my 300mm telephoto lens. Best wishes to all.

Lunar elipse 03/03/07

Submitted by: Richard M Haw at Tue Mar 6 02:06:01 2007 UTC

A little montage of my lunar eclipse pics. Due to some cloud and other factors I was not able to get pictures at regular intervals, but never the less I was thrilled to witness the event here in cloudy England and managed to get pics every 15-30 mins. A great event that even my three year old enjoyed, he said "Dragons were eating the moon"

Urban Sprawl

After two nights of fuitless aurora watching, I was returning home at 4.00am this morning over the 2000 ft summit of the Snake pass when I decided to snap what I had been driving out to avoid - Light pollution.

The image shows the Manchester area, home to some 8.5+ million people. The field of view shows the lights of the Liverpool area on the far left to Bolton on the far right. A distance of some 25+ miles.

The red lights of the 1000 foot high Winter Hill tv transmitter can be seen on the far left - some 25 miles in the distance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_Hill_transmitting_station
