When I saw good graphics , I went outside to see if there was activity and I
saw nothing due to light polution but I took a picture to be sure and my
photograph reveal a green arc. Then I decided to go on a dark site to
apreciate the show ... it was a smooth show with different greens and rays
sometimes ! It's nice to see that the northern lights are back 8)

There's no words or images to describe a geomagnetic storm , but one thing
is sure , it's that we pass by all kind of emotions :) During this aurora ,
I even had a thought for the victims of the World Trade Center because of
the date ! These images are only a fraction of what I saw that night !!!

A burst of aurora appeared at midnight on 5 sept. 2005 during an
astronomy night. I was with Alain Couture , Jean Chiasson and
Jean-François Dion in the Laurentide Wildlife Reserve at the milestone
km 103 ( Foret Montmorency ). A "truncated " arc was there like if the
aurora had not enough power to complete the arc ! It reminds me like if
it was a proton arc , especialy under the big dipper.

Solar Minimum ??!!??
The Sun is supposed to be in a period of minimum activity these days !?
That's the first time that I could see 4 northern lights in 7 days!!! These
aurora occured in the week of July 31, 2005 to August 7, 2005 during my
vacations to the Lake St-Jean at ~250km to the north of Quebec city. This
aurora is very weak but I count it nevertheless ;) To see more images from

During the calm aurora , I've made a test with a 135mm lens ( = 200mm in
35mm format ) and the result is nice at my eyes. It's not often that we see
an aurora photographed with a 135mm lens ;)
