RED SKY in the Morning

Submitted by: Linda at Fri May 27 21:08:01 2005 UTC

Before SunRise on Nov. 26, 2003, I had stepped outside just to check the basic weather conditions. There was a pink-purple glow starting to form. A new camera is a tempting distraction. I got in my car took a quick drive to the Street which runs along the River across from Harrisburg, PA. Morning Commuters were zipping by. During the next 20-30 minutes, this intense RED color developed. . Two days later my Daughter called and said, "Mom, you should have seen the SunRise on Thursday"!! I said, "I did"!! I saved the unedited camera files, fearing someone might not believe it really looked like this. I have photographed many, many River SunRises since then. i am adicted to Beautiful Skies. During the evening of May 29, 2004, my Husband had checked to see what time the International Space Station might be visible. The prediction was for 9:38PM. The ISS was on time moving silently through Ursa Major. Sony CyberShot DSC F717 30sec. exposure (c) Linda M.Sweger 2004.

Fog Greets the Rising Sun as Venus Transit

Submitted by: Linda at Thu May 26 17:54:01 2005 UTC

June 8, 2004 This long awaited event was finally happening. About 20-25 member of the Astronomy Club my Husband and I belong to assembled in an open area behind the Club's Observatory grounds. Everyone had their telescopes, binoculars, camera, camcorder, etc. ready. A dense fog refused to clear at the scheduled SunRise time. Finally, about 20-30 minutes later the Sun had risen about the thickest fog. Just for the fun of it I took several "hand held" shot with my Sony CyberShot DSC F717. The fog had reduced the Sun's intense brightness and I capture nice images of Venus crossing the Sun. (c) Linda M.Sweger 2004

On June 9, 2003 during a monthly meeting of an Astronomy Club my Husband and I belong to, I was surprised by this nice Twilight pass of the International Space Station traveling past Corvus. I exposed for 20 seconds which created an almost Sun/Daylight appearance to the Moon. I just happened to have my Sony CyberShot DSC F717 mounted on a Tripod. Just Luck. (c) Linda M. Sweger 2003

On March 10th, 2005 high Cirrus Clouds suggested conditions were right for a Sun Pillar to form at SunSet. I like the unobstructed view looking over the River at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Mammatus Clouds (1)

Submitted by: Linda at Thu May 26 18:23:01 2005 UTC

Late in the afternoon on March 12, 2005, we had sleet/rain with very dark clouds over Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. When the bright Sun popped out on the back of our house, I was hoping to see a Rainbow out front. ..But, instead these round bottomed Clouds were flying to the East. Apparently, several counties away they had a nasty Thunder Storm with their sleet/rain event. Sony CyberShot DSC F717 (c) Linda M.Sweger 2005

Pink Belt of Venus

Submitted by: Linda at Thu May 26 19:34:01 2005 UTC

March 3, 2005 MiddleSex near Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I was driving home from visiting my Mother near SunSet. I headed into an area of farms fields looking for a good horizon to watch/photograph the SunSet if it was of interest. I could not seem to clear all the tree lines edging the fields. The Sun set, I turned my van around - and there opposite the setting Sun was a very nice PinKGlow - the Belt of Venus glowing over the Blue-Gray Shadow of the Earth. So.... I snapped a few images.
