My Alaskan Auroras

Submitted by: Mark Stadsklev at Tue Jan 18 03:24:01 2005 UTC

Finally the forecast prove correct with level 10 auroras. These occured for 4 hours on Sunday night, Jan 16,2004. A slight wind made it below zero but well worth the wait. The moon was just setting into the river fog. Canon 1D Mark II, 17-40mm, iso 800, time 25 secs. Enjoy, but please ask for permission to re-use or print, copyright Mark Stadsklev 2005. Getting into the deep dark woods, it's not so dark with a large moon, reflected frost and the Northern Lights. It helps to expose for 30 secs at iso 640 too. copyright Mark A. Stadsklev 2005 www.alaskaphotopilot.com

Me and My Moon Shadow

Which is colder, myself or my shadow? Waiting for the aurora hour after hour, is like panning for color in a stream bed year after year. You know it's there but where and when you can't even tell yourself. copy Mark A. Stadsklev 2005 www.alaskaphotopilot.com
