This photograph is one of a series of 25x1 sec exposures shot back to back at 1 frame/sec at about 2 AM November 8th in my back yard in Kalamazoo, MI. The images were shot with a Nikon D2H DSLR body and a Sigma 14 mm f/2.8 ultrawide angle lens (21 mm digital equivalent). The camera and lens were mounted on a Bogen 3021 Pro tripod with a Bogen 3039 pan/tilt head. The aperture was f/2.8 and the iso setting was 1600 to allow me to shoot at 1 frame/sec. The 25 frames are combined in an animated gif sequence linked to my website and can be viewed on the following page:

Photograph of the aurora over the lighthouse at South Haven, Michigan. The image was made at about 3 AM November 10th. The photo was taken using a Nikon D2H DSLR body with a Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8 AF-S lens. The camera and lens were mounted on a Bogen 3021 Pro tripod with a Bogen 3039 pan/tilt head. The exposure was 8 sec at f/3.2 at iso = 400. A Singh-Ray 2 stop reverse ND grad filter was used to hold back the bright light from the catwalk leading out to the lighthouse to balance the exposure of the aurora. - the cutoff for the filter was just above the top of the lighthouse. The section of the filter at the top of the frame was optically clear.
