conjuction aurora - Nov 9, 2004
Submitted by:
Phil Hoffman at Sun Nov 14 22:37:01 2004 UTC
For a short period on the morning of Nov 9 the clouds cleared just in
time
to catch an aurora streaking by the moon, Venus and Jupiter. Mars also
puts
in a showing right where the sky is brightening, between the trees.
Jupiter
unfortunately was so close to the moon that it is lost in the moon’s
glow. 6
second exposure on Provia 400F with a 20mm lens at f/2.8.

Since the moon was overpowering Jupiter, this shot was made shortly
after
the previous two with a 500mm lens.

For a short period on the morning of Nov 9 the clouds cleared just in
time
to catch an aurora streaking by the moon, Venus and Jupiter. Jupiter,
unfortunately was too close to the moon to be visible in this 15 second
exposure on Provia 400F with a 20mm lens at f/2.8. This was made a few
minutes after the previous photo.

"South-eastern" Lights
Submitted by:
Phil Hoffman at Mon Nov 3 06:59:02 2003 UTC
On October 29, the aurora was active in the south-east as Orion was
rising. This view is over looking Schwatka Lake, a reservoir behind the
Whitehorse Rapids Dam on the Yukon River.

Tandem, October 14, 2003

This was the first frame I exposed on this evening. At the time, I
thought the bright spot above the mountain was a light which is
sometimes on. When I reviewed the slides, I realized that it was
Arcturus.
