A mild aurora was visible all night long on Aug. 3-4, 2005
over Lac Bonne Entente, 1 hour N. of Chicoutimi, QC, Canada.
It got brighter as dawn approached and I took this
photograph. 28 mm f/2.8 lens on Olympus OM-1, 15 sec.
exposure, Fuji Superia 800 pushed 1/2 stop.

Great aurora of november 21st 2003

An extreme geomagnetic storm was ongoing again, so I drove to
the Lake Sonoma site (CA, USA, 38.5 deg N) and set up at
sunset. Activity started to intensify around 5:00 UTC. At
this stage the aurora looked monochrome to the naked eye.
Yashica FX-3 camera with 50mm f/2 objective. 20 sec. exposure
on Provia 400F pushed 1 stop.

Nov. 21st 2003 aurora

At 5:30 PM UTC a well defined auroral arc appeared on the NE
20 degrees above the horizon. At its best the arc covered the
horizon from N to E and shot a few rays 45 deg. up in the
sky. Bright areas undulated along the arc. Visually the
aurora was green. The reds were just below the perception
limit. It actually looked like a fairly decent South Canada
aurora. Activity lasted on and off over the next 2 hours.
Yashica FX-3 camera with 50mm f/2 objective. 30 sec exposure
on Provia 400F pushed 1 stop.

Great aurora of Oct. 29th 2003

Hunting the aurora in California is a bit quixotic, but it
has its rewards. I took this image during the breakup phase
of the october 29th 2003 aurora from Lake Sonoma, 50 miles N.
of San Francisco. The sky suddenly exploded into colorful
rays. The breakup phase lasted 10 minutes. This photograph
captures the visual appearance of the aurora pretty well.
Yashica FX-3 camera and 50mm f/2 lens. Fuji Superia XTRA 800
print film pushed 1/2 stop. 20 sec. exposure.
