Parhelia reflected on a lake while the sun is setting next to Mont-Orford.
Parhelia (sundogs) appear when sunlight is refracted by horisontal crystal
plates inside the cloud.
Parhélie réfléchi sur le lac tandis que le Soleil se couche près du
Mont-Orford. Les Parhélies (faux soleil) sont formés lorsque la lumière du
Soleil est est réfracté à l'intérieur de crystaux plats contenus dans le
nuage.

The sunlight is diffracted by small and uniform size water droplets from a
thin cloud.
La lumière du soleil est diffractée par de fines gouttelettes d'eau de

July 16 2004 northern Lights (2)

After a cloudy night inside the Mont-Mégantic Popular Observatory, I went
outside to deinstall the smaller telescope and I saw the sky had cleared and
that a faint green light was rising above the northern horizon. So we
decided to take everyone outside to watch this surreal show and a couple
minutes later, small pillars started dancing slowly above the green arc of
light.
Après une soirée nuageuse à l'Observatoire Populaire du Mont-Mégantic, je
suis sorti à l'extérieur pour aller ranger le plus petit téléscope et j'ai
vu que le ciel s'était dégagé et qu'en plus, une faible lueur verte se
pointait à l'horizon Nord. Nous avons donc décidé de faire sortir le public
à l'extérieur pour qu'ils puissent admiere ce magnifique spectacle et
quelques minutes plus tard, de petits pilliers ont commencé à danser au
dessus de l'arc de lumière verte.
