A green arc was visible at an elevation of ~ 20° , no other feature was visible. The rising moon was not an interference to the visibility. I've been surprised by this unexpected ( for me ) aurora , visible over the light polution of Quebec city and under the near full moon ! I went to Valbélair ( 15km N-W of Quebec city ) at 6:00 UT on 5 december 2003. The aurora was beautiful with the forground illuminated by the moon. photo details: 16mm @ f 2.8 , 20 sec , fuji superia 800 © Dominic Cantin dominiccantin@yahoo.ca http://astrosurf.com/aurores/

For most of the peoples , all around the world , even on low latitudes , who had clear skies on 20 nov.2003 , they've been spoiled by a strong geomagnetic storm ! Here in Quebec city , the fog was omnipresent but at ~6:00 UT on 21 nov. 2003 , I had the luck to find a hole in the fog where I was at 10km south of Quebec city , just the time to take few pictures before the clouds enter. photo details : 28mm @ f 2.8 , 20 sec , fuji superia 800 © Dominic Cantin dominiccantin@yahoo.ca http://astrosurf.com/aurores/

The word hunt takes all its sense with this aurora seen this morning of 4 november 2003 !!! At the time of the impact ~1:00am, the sky was completely overcast here, but the impact gives me the shakes nevertheless :) I look at this site http://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goeseastconusir.html and I see one breach in the clouds to about ~100km to the north of Quebec, in middle of the Park of the Laurentides , I decide to go there and when I arrived to the km 99 , the sky was completly clear !!! A green aurora with some white rays is there but it decrease to the point where one doesn't see more nearly the dawn: (Me and Jean, begins to think that our chances died because it's passed 3:30 and there is always anything but we said that to 4:30 if nothing happens , we leaves at home. The magnetosphere decides to give us a gift when tilting southwards... near 9:20 UT, the northern lights begins to take of the size when the red begins to be visible, YES :) I don't remember to have seen one aurora as the one there, a very powerful red aurora , with big white rays going up until the zenith. The translucent red have an intensity between clear and dark, it was beautiful!!! Nearly 10:15 UT , the northern lights began to decrease in intensity as the dawn begin in strenght. What a magic show are the northern lights :) photo details: 16mm fisheye or 28mm@ f 2.8 , 5 to 15 seconds , fuji superia 800 , Laurentides wildlife reserve , 80km north of Quebec city. © Dominic Cantin dominiccantin@yahoo.ca

Overcast was the story of this very active week ( 26 to 31 october 2003 ) but I had a break of ~ 3 hours in clouds , when I arrived at l'Ile d'Orléans ( 30km east of Quebec city ) a moderate aurora was there but ½ later , at 5:45 UT 31 oct. 2003 the aurora became very intense and filled the entire sky and I saw beautiful corona with fast movements and fast changing in shapes. A beautiful magnetic storm for ½ hour is extraordinary after 5 days overcast ! The red in this aurora was visible sometimes ...A special way to begin the Halloween day !
