Moon Halo
Submitted by:
shansen at Fri Jan 9 13:02:01 2004 UTC
As I was going out to watch for Auroras I saw this Moon halo.
It was the nicest one I've seen yet. The inset was taken just after
the first picture at a faster shutter speed to block out the halo.
Taken with a Minolta DiMage F100 at 1am est on 1/01/04
exp. 1/4 sec at F8.0 camera sensitivity ISO 100 114 mm lens
equivalent. Inset 1/15 sec F8.0 ISO 100

Rained in most of lower Michigan on the night of
November 18th so I went north to Christmas Michigan in
the Upper Peninsula. Finally found clear skies on the Lake Superior
shore line at 1:30 am. The Auroras were rather weak but were
visible for about 2 hours. Also saw 20 Leonids that night.

The place where I usually take pictures from
this year is now a corn field . So last night to
get to get any pictures I had to set the camera and
tripod on top of one apple crate and stand on another one
to see above the corn. Hope there's more tonight!
