P/Holmes 2

A wider view of Comet Holmes. If you can manage to, get out and have a
look at this one; it might be the oddest thing you ever see in the night
sky. Use any optical aid you can...it even looks good in a finderscope!
Photo details: Canon Digital Rebel XTi at prime focus on a Synta f/5
refractor working at f/10. Eight second exposure at ISO 800 with one
equal dark frame.

chance to view it.

Macholtz in Taurus
Submitted by:
SherryB at Sat Mar 19 17:32:01 2005 UTC
The local TV weather guy was attempting to explain where P/Macholtz was;
I submitted this shot to him, and he aired it the next evening.
Apparently, it did help.
Camera: Nikon FE/Nikkor 50mm at f/4. Kodak MAX 400. Twenty minute
guided exposure aboard my Synta EQ5 GEM. Processing in Photoshop to
minimize cloud bands that pestered me all evening. ©2005 Sherry

At least we caught a tiny bit of the great storm here....despite the
efforts of the Hawai'ian Express (a local weather system originating in
Hawai'i) to ruin it. But mostly we just saw colourful clouds. And
diffuse sheet aurora like this one. Oh well.... Camera/lens: Nikon
FE/Tamron 28mm. Film: Kodak Max 400.

Perseid Meteor in Cygnus

Mostly the camera is never pointed where the action is, it seems, but
this Perseid was kind enough to offer its photons for this shot. The
photo is centred on Cygnus, with Vega in the upper right.

lens. Nine-minute guided exposure on a Synta EQ5 GEM. © 2004 Sherry

The beginning phase of the great summer aurora storm on the evening of
July 26/27.2004, as seen just after sunset from the southernmost tip of
Vancouver Island. Beautiful aurora on a hot summer night, with some good
friends and first-time aurora watchers...summer nights don't get much
better than that. ©2004 Sherry Buttnor, Metchosin BC N48.35W123.55.

Comet Hale-Bopp

Almost didn't get this comet. Cloudy weather and other commitments
conspired to keep me away from the camera for much of Hale-Bopp's
appearance. Then it all came together and I was able to image the
comet from my back yard one beautifully clear April evening. Camera:
