Parliament Hill Ottawa, Canada 15 Aug 03

Submitted by: Aaron Hywarren at Sun Aug 17 03:05:03 2003 UTC

An interesting conclusion to a day when power was being restored in Ottawa.

These crepuscular rays were observed on Parliament Hill in downtown Ottawa, Canada at 1844 local time (2244 UTC) on 15 Aug 03. By this point, most of the city had its power restored. This was a quick, low resolution snap shot taken with a Canon PowerShot A-30 set on automatic (exposure was 1/500 th of a second at f 8).

12 Jul 03 Aurora from Ottawa

Submitted by: Aaron Hywarren at Sat Jul 12 19:24:02 2003 UTC

This display was most impressive despite the near full-moon and appearance of cloud cover. This 15-second image was taken about 6 km SE of Ottawa at 0511 UTC using a Canon PowerShot A-30 set at f 2.8 and ISO 200. In this image, the clouds have already moved in, but the display was holding its own with defined curtains showing great colour variation from below, and very bright "goings-on" behind the clouds. Orange cast is from the ambient light of Ottawa. About 15 minutes later, the clouds had moved off and the lower level curtains began to give way to wave-like pulsations extending to the zenith.
