Stars and Aurora Over Crater Lake
Dean & Rebecca Kelly at Sun Mar 2 05:55:02 2003 UTC
August of 2000 found my family and I vacationing in southern Oregon near
Crater Lake. That night I took my OM-1 up to the lake around 11pm to do
some time exposures. I had only anticipated catching some star trails but
was surprised to find this faint aurora activity, completely unseen by the
human eye. The exposure was 20 minutes at f1.4, though I don't recall the
film I used.
This image was featured in the 2003 Discover the Universe calendar for the
month of August, my first widely published work!
