remember the night, nor do I remember seeing anything. However, this is
what the film picked up. Photo by Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North

Northern Lights near Brainerd, MN
Submitted by:
Lyndon Anderson at Thu Jul 31 03:46:01 2003 UTC
This photograph was taken northwest of Brainerd, MN, at Cragun's Resort
on Saturday evening, July 26, 2003. There was an beautiful substorm
from 11:20 to 11:40 p.m. Looking north-northwest. Taken without a
tripod (the camera was sitting on a picnic table). I rarely have the
opportunity to photograph the northern lights with a lake, trees, and
lots of lights in the scene. Photo by Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North

Daylight Aurora? Not!
Submitted by:
Lyndon Anderson at Thu Jul 10 01:57:01 2003 UTC
I watched as this storm built to the west of my location and as it moved
to the north. The leading edge of the rain was backlit by the setting
sun. For a long time, the scene looked like auroral curtains, with many
light areas and many dark areas in the western sky. If you use your
imagination, you can "see" aurora in this photograph. Photo by Lyndon

A Magical Moment (or the anti-equinox aurora)
Submitted by:
Lyndon Anderson at Fri Jun 20 01:02:01 2003 UTC
A photograph of the northern lights taken at ~4:15 a.m. on Wednesday,
June 18, 2003. The light of dawn was in sharp contrast with the northern
lights, and the bright moon lit up the entire scene. It was comfortable
out, with no wind - and virtually no mosquitoes. And bright mars could
be seen near the moon to the southeast. Looking east. Photo by Lyndon
Anderson, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA. Copyright.

By far, my favorite aurora display
Submitted by:
Lyndon Anderson at Mon Dec 30 00:49:01 2002 UTC
The aurora breakup that occurred sometime around 9:55 p.m. on Thursday,
December 26, 2002, was by far the most stunning display of the northern
lights that I have seen in my three years of viewing. The photographs
taken during that time - don't reflect the beauty of this display.
Anyway, during most of this time, I could see purple at the lower edges
of the display, which was picked up by the film. Looking
north-northeast. Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA.

Holiday Colors

Lyndon Anderson at Mon Dec 30 00:42:01 2002 UTC
This scene was photographed looking northwest at approximately 9:30 p.m.
on Thursday, December 26, 2002. I could see a faint red in the sky -
which the film easily picked up. A lower, more defined green arc
started to form about this time. Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North

Lyndon Anderson at Sat Nov 30 18:26:01 2002 UTC
This photograph was taken at 6:32 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2002.
Exposure time was 10+ seconds - too long to get a good photograph of the
brightly lit moon and Venus. However, I held the lens open for 10+
seconds to capture the Iridium flare. Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North

A Thanksgiving Lineup
Submitted by:
Lyndon Anderson at Fri Nov 29 23:38:01 2002 UTC
This photograph was taken the morning of Thanksgiving on Thursday,
November 28, 2002. The reason I took this photograph - I needed
something to do inbetween displays of the northern lights. Plus, I
needed to check settings for upcoming mornings when the moon will also
be featured along with Venus, Mars and Spica. Lyndon Anderson,

The Aurora That "Wasn't"

The forecast for this aurora - on Tuesday evening, November 26, 2002 -
looked promising. But, every show is unique - and this one quickly
fizzled - but not before a photograph of a weak glow was taken. Lyndon

This image was taken at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2,

thought it would be fun to show an aurora photograph in black and white
- as we all strive so hard to take photos of the aurora just to show the
colors. Lyndon Anderson, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA. Copyright.
