The moon was still above the horizon at that moment, but the sky was already
too bright and the eclipse was too dark to enable the observation of both
celestial bodies.

The Sun - May 4th 2003
Submitted by:
Ulrich Rieth at Tue May 13 00:25:02 2003 UTC
Only 3 days before the Mercury transit, I had to test the solar filter
(Baader Astro Solar ND5) with our local astronomy clubs 12 inch LX200
telescope.
The sun showed some nice sunspots that sunday afternoon
Active regions 10348 and 10349 had already rotated onto the western half of
the sun, whereas 10351 just appeared in the eastern half of the sun.
Exposed on May 4th 2003 for 1/500s on Fuji Provia 100F using a 12-inch Meade
LX200 telescope equipped with Baader Astro Solar ND5 solar filter foil.

Just minutes before 3rd contact during its 2003 transit of the solar disc,
planet Mercury was captured together with the sunspots 10348 and 10349 (both
on the solar limb) as well as 10351 in the center of the solar disc.

Orbital Ballet - ISS and two double Iridiums
Submitted by:
Ulrich Rieth at Thu Jan 9 23:56:01 2003 UTC
This image shows the most prominent spacecrafts one can observe from the
ground.
Two Iridium satellites (59 & 90) flared within 4 minutes at -2 and -3
magnitudes.
But not enough, during the same 4mins the ISS at -0.5 magnitudes exactly
crossed the flare site.
And still not enough, both Iridiums flared again only 30 seconds after the
main events.
Really a unique event that happend on 2002 Dec. 10th.
Exposed using a 28mm lens at f/1.8 for 4 minutes on Kodak Elite Chrome 400.
