Some coronal holes are always observable on the sun. Displays of the aurora therefore might be seen regularly from high latitudes.

Middle Latitude Auroral Activity WARNING
Issued: 2:30 UTC, 11 March 2012
Solar Terrestrial Dispatch
www.spacew.com

The next major solar disturbance is expected to impact the Earth within
the next 12 hours or so. Its arrival is expected to produce another round
of auroral storm activity that could become visible well into the central
middle latitude regions and possibly the lower latitude regions (areas
from southern Canada and south into the central United States and possibly
areas further south).

At least two additional coronal mass ejection have been determined to be
Earthward-directed over the last 24 hours and will prolong periods of
auroral activity well into 13 March. Activity thereafter will likely
subside to quiet levels as the solar region responsible for the disturbed
conditions rotates behind the western solar limb and out of view.

The best opportunity to observe activity will likely be during the next 48
hours.

End of WARNING statement

Hi all!

This WARNING has to be extended.
SIDC (http://sidc.oma.be/index.php3) just send an analysis about last nights M6 flare and the corresponding CME.
More severe geomagnetic storming is due for 03/11-12!

SOHO/LASCO detected a full halo CME in association with the M6.3 flare
in Catania sunspot group 65 (NOAA AR 1429) this morning. The CME first
appeared in the LASCO C2 field of view at 04:14 UT and had a speed
around 750 km/s. We expect the CME arrival at the Earth late on March 11
- early on March 12. An evaluation of the possible erupting flux rope
orientation on the basis of HMI photospheric magnetograms and AIA images
of the post-eruption arcade gives the south-east-north (SEN,
left-handed) configuration. Due to the position of the CME source region
close to the solar central meridian, we expect a nearly central
encounter of the resulting ICME, which will probably be a magnetic cloud
with leading southward field. A strong geomagnetic storm (K = 7 or
higher) is probable.

Hi all!

This storm is not over yet.
As long as you have clear skies and as long as it is dark at your site, keep an eye on the northern sky.
The aurora might be visible despite of the full moon light.
Clear skies!

I'm in Gillette WY and have checked the sky all evening, hoping...  Just went outside again and there was a pretty band of green from the horizon to about 30°.  I am south of town (of course) but it still was pretty bright.
