Some coronal holes are always observable on the sun. Displays of the aurora therefore might be seen regularly from high latitudes.

Hi all!

A major storm is in progress with local K indices having reached 7 already.
The IMF seems to be in a stable southward orientation after earth intersected a magnetic cloud near 16 UTC today (June 12th).
Sightings of auroral activity should be possible as far south as central Germany if activity persists until darkness (1-2 hours from now).
Take a good look at the European magnetometers on http://www.sam-europe.de/
Clear skies and good luck!

Hi Ulrich,
Could there be any possible connection with the 5.6 earthquake in Southern California that occured at 15:41:46 today and the magnetic distrubance?

(just curious)
